Clinical Trials
Our involvement
At Ingalls, we are dedicated to offering our patients as many
treatment options as possible for the best outcome. Sometimes
this means involving patients in clinical trials. Our steadfast
participation in these research studies gives us the opportunity
to offer patients new techniques or treatments. Clinical trials
also provide us with the opportunity to receive new, potentially
more effective therapies including access to medicines not yet
available for prescription.
Institutional Review Board (IRB)
The Ingalls Institutional Review Board (IRB) meets monthly
to review new clinical trials and monitor ongoing studies for
safety. All trials are reviewed by at least two committees before
they can begin. Additionally, trials are reviewed by the FDA.
Ophthalmology studies
The Irwin Retina Center at Ingalls Memorial Hospital offers
nationally recognized research for retinal disorders and in
particular age-related macular degeneration and diabetic
retinopathy. Patients interested in participating in clinical
research can call 708-596-8710 for more information.

Cancer studies
Ingalls is affiliated with more cancer research programs than any
other cancer program in the South Suburbs. In fact, 10 to 20%
of Ingalls cancer patients routinely participate in our cancer research
programs, compared to a national average of only 3 to 5%. Patients
interested in participating in clinical research can call 708-915-6747
for more information.

Research in Neurosciences
Ingalls Spine Center is involved in many research opportunities for
our patients called investigational device exemptions (IDE) - clinical
trials that uses a device instead of a drug. Patients interested in
participating can call 800-221-2199 for more information.
