The Irwin Retina Center at Ingalls is a unique place for patients to have their eyes cared for. We offer everything from screenings to surgery under one roof and by a team of world-renowned experts.

The Irwin Retina Center is involved in more retina research projects than any other retina group or institute in the state and is internationally known for their contributions to education and research.

Many of the retinal specialists at Ingalls:
• Hold an academic position at Rush-Presbyterian-St.
   Luke's Medical Center and are involved with
   the training of residents and fellows
• Teach courses and symposia, and at medical
   institutions and meetings around the world
• Have written many books and articles
• Have invented new instruments in the field of vitreous
   and retina surgery
• Have been recognized as some of the "Best Doctors in
   America" in retinal diseases
• Have lobbied around the country for the expansion of
   government reimbursement for medical services

Ingalls has one of the most well equipped and up-to-date operating rooms in the Chicago area dedicated to retinal surgery. We also offer a dedicated center for patients with age-related macular degeneration.

The following are a few procedures that we offer:
• Advanced therapeutic modalities for thermal laser -
   the use of light to treat leaking blood vessels and
   other eye disorders
• Outpatient retinal detachment - a procedure to treat
   the separation of the retina's sensory layers from the
   inner wall of the eye
• Photodynamic therapy - therapy to treat age-related
   macular degeneration through the use of a specific
   laser and a photosensitive drug
• Cryosurgery - a treatment for retinal tears,
   detachment and other retinal disorders
