Technologies

From diagnosis through treatment, Ingalls offers the most advanced technologies and therapies to treat any health concern that you or a loved one may encounter, including award-winning cancer care, nationally recognized neurological care, orthopedic and heart care, just to name a few. What's more, our care is delivered by highly trained, experienced health care professionals who have one goal in mind: exceptional care.

Richard K. Desser, M.D., Comprehensive Breast Center
For the most complete breast care anywhere in the South Suburbs, the Ingalls Desser Center offers a team of caring medical professionals whose only concern is providing private, state-of-the-art, individualized care for women with breast health issues – in one convenient location. When needed, you can receive the professional opinion of a surgeon, radiologist, medical oncologist, radiation oncologist and a plastic surgeon. These dedicated physicians care for you at any stage of breast health. Whether you need a mammogram, a biopsy of a suspicious lump, or treatment for breast cancer, our team is standing by. What's more, every patient receives the expert guidance of our specially trained breast health nurse navigator who answers questions, educates and assists patients in every aspect of their care – from diagnosis through treatment.

The Desser Center team also includes experienced, specially trained radiologists who understand your particular concerns, and have passed stringent standards for performing and interpreting mammograms, ultrasound, MRI and other diagnostic tests.

Other state-of-the-art services include:

High-level Perinatal Care
Ingalls is home to a Level II Nursery with Extended Neonatal Capabilities. This distinction recognizes the advanced monitoring equipment and technology used in our nursery and the special training our staff has completed in everything from ventilator support to how to care for high-risk newborns. Ingalls birthing unit also includes two state-of-the-art surgical suites for cesarean deliveries, conveniently located just down the hall from the maternity suites.

Uterine Fibroid Embolization (UFE)
Ingalls became the first community hospital in the South Suburbs to offer this minimally invasive treatment of uterine fibroid tumors.

Laser Treatment for Varicose Veins (for women and men)
Using the VenaCure Laser Venous System, a specially trained team of interventional radiologists at Ingalls are treating patients with varicose veins on an outpatient basis with a minimal amount of discomfort. The procedure involves the use of a thin laser fiber inserted into a tiny puncture site in the affected leg. Energy emitted from the laser causes only the affected vein to close, while the body automatically routes the blood to other healthy veins. As the quick recovery process begins, the affected veins continue to disappear visually.

Vertebroplasty (for women and men)
Using image guidance by interventional radiologists, vertebroplasty stabilizes collapsed vertebra caused by osteoporosis or fractures with the injection of medical-grade bone cement into the spine. This decreases pain and prevents further collapse of the spine, which may otherwise lead to curvature of the spine, sometimes seen as a result of long-standing osteoporosis.

Telemedicine
This innovation, unique to the South Suburbs, simultaneously transmits echocardiograms from Ingalls to pediatric cardiologists while saving valuable time in diagnosis.
