Special Touches Just for You
Women's Health Unit
Because you're special, we've devoted an entire section of our hospital to women's care. Our Women's Health Unit offers you superior gynecological, medical and surgical care in an attractive, private setting designed with a woman's comfort in mind.
Maternity Suites
Whether you are planning a pregnancy or are already pregnant, the Maternity Suites at Ingalls are available to support and care for you during this exciting time in your life.
Our comprehensive services, experienced staff, state-of the art equipment and attractive birthing suites will make your birthing experience one that you and your family will cherish. To add to your comfort, our 20 private birthing suites feature all the comforts of home, including televisions with VCR/DVD players, sleeper-sofas for baby's dad or support person to spend the night, hardwood floors, large showers, soft lighting, plush furnishings and a wooden glider to rock baby to sleep.
Ingalls provides valet "Stork" parking for pre-registered patients. Patients drive up to the hospital's main entrance and present their VIP pass. A staff member meets them in the lobby and personally escorts them to their labor and delivery suite.
As an added benefit, Taking Care of Mom and Baby, created by our maternity staff, is our gift to every woman who delivers at Ingalls. The book's contents provide helpful answers about baby's care in those first important days. Patients can also take advantage of advice, fetal developmental information and support at the Parent Review.
Care for Premature or Ill Newborns
Ingalls is home to a Level II Nursery with Extended Neonatal Capabilities. This distinction recognizes the advanced monitoring equipment and technology used in our nursery and the special training our staff has completed in everything from ventilator support to how to care for high-risk newborns.
Ingalls birthing unit also includes two state-of-the-art surgical suites for cesarean deliveries, conveniently located just down the hall from the maternity suites.
Neonatology Services
Sometimes little patients face big challenges. That's why Ingalls Health System has partnered with specially trained neonatologists from the University of Chicago Comer Children's Hospital.
Comprehensive neonatal care is available 24 hours a day, seven days a week for all high-risk deliveries at Ingalls, including pre-term and cesarean births, and for all high-risk newborns, including those with breathing or heart complications, or sepsis.
Highly skilled neonatologists attend all high-risk deliveries and perform assessment, resuscitation and stabilization measures as needed. In addition, they are available to consult with family practice, obstetrics and emergency physicians on the care of ill newborns (up to one month old) and provide regular care and treatment for newborns admitted to Ingalls Special Care Nursery.
If a newborn requires additional care, transportation will be arranged to the neonatal intensive care unit at University of Chicago Comer Children's Hospital or another nearby tertiary hospital.
Children's Care
Pediatricians provide wellness and preventive primary care for newborns through age 17. They also treat acute trauma, major childhood diseases and provide care for more specialized conditions such as gastroenteritis, sickle cell anemia and respiratory diseases.
For your added piece of mind, in-house pediatric specialists are on-site at Ingalls 24 hours a day, seven days a week, for children who are admitted through the Emergency Department, or for children who do not have a pediatrician of record. Ingalls has partnered with Family Christian Health Center, located on the campus of Ingalls Memorial Hospital, to bring this special service to our young patients.
For inpatient children, Ingalls provides a playroom to help kids feel like they're at home.
