Veteran Ingalls employee on the receiving end of care

To say that Ingalls employee Lee Sopher knows her way around the hospital would be an understatement.

As an information/front desk employee, this 29-year veteran has walked the halls of Ingalls literally hundreds of times over, helping patients get to where they need to go.

"When that front door opens, you're the first person they see," she says. "It really means a lot to them when I take the time to talk and listen."

Recently, though, this energetic 78-year-old was on the receiving end of Ingalls' trademark care.

"I started losing weight and found myself out of breath," she explains.

Just a few days later, Sopher underwent an angiogram, where doctors pinpointed several blockages in her coronary arteries. From the catheterization lab, Sopher went straight to the operating room and had triple bypass surgery, performed by cardiovascular surgeon Bryan Lee, M.D.

"Just 23 hours later, they had me up and walking," she said.

Sopher soon began outpatient rehabilitation at Ingalls, and that's where you could find her three times a week, pedaling her way back to fitness on an exercise bike. "I'm feeling great," she says. "I was so happy with the care I received, and so were my kids."
